Medical acupuncture and dry needling may be used by our physiotherapists as part of an integrated approach to pain, muscle tension and rehabilitation. Medical acupuncture can help stimulate the body’s natural pain-relieving chemicals and may be used to help settle pain and inflammation. Dry needling involves inserting a fine needle into tight or sensitive areas of muscle to help reduce tension, ease discomfort and improve movement.
Both techniques may be used alongside treatments such as manual therapy, exercise and rehabilitation. For some people, they can help calm an irritated or painful area enough to allow better movement and progress with recovery. We use them thoughtfully, where appropriate, as one part of a wider personalised treatment plan.
