Is Pilates for anybody?

Pilates exercises can be adapted and modified to an individual’s specific needs and requirements.
More Pilates

Pilates exercises can be adapted and modified to an individual’s specific needs and requirements. I have had the privilege of working with a variety of people over the years  from all walks of life and have seen firsthand how Pilates exercises can be of benefit, not only as part of a form of exercise but also rehabilitation from injury and surgery. I have taught clients looking for pre and post-natal exercise, clients with scoliosis, osteoporosis and hyper mobility to name a few.

The benefits of Pilates is becoming more recognized amongst not only medical and healthcare practitioners but also professional athletes such as footballers and golfers.  Encouraging more people to take up Pilates, either as classes or one to one sessions, matwork or using the equipment such as the Reformer. The use of small equipment and the larger pieces of Pilates machinery adds versatility and variety.

Pilates bridges the gap for those whom the idea of attending a gym is a daunting prospect. Offering a form of exercise that can be both confidence building and nurturing; while at the same time providing all the benefits of Pilates training.

It has been a common belief that Pilates is associated primarily with women’s fitness, but more men are discovering its benefits. As a teacher I am also seeing a lot more men attending classes and one to one sessions, the misconception that Pilates is just for women is being broken down, lead by celebrities such as Andy Murray, LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham. Pilates can help with flexibility, strength training, improved range of movement and injury prevention.

So whether you are looking for recovery from injury or surgery or to add to your exercise and fitness regime Pilates can be for any and every body.
